With the near-total solar eclipse coming to York Region on Monday, April 8, we have a rare opportunity to perform Salat al-Kusuf (صلاة الكسوف), the eclipse prayer taught by the Prophet ﷺ — made even more special by the fact that we can establish this sunnah at the end of Ramadan.

PLEASE NOTE: While driving to or from the masjid during the eclipse time (approximately 1:30–4:30 PM), don’t look up at the sky and especially not toward the sun. Look straight ahead at the road, keep your visor down, drive slowly and cautiously, and turn your headlights on if it gets dark. ❗️DO NOT at any point look toward the sun without the appropriate eclipse glasses, as this could seriously harm your eyes even if you don’t feel any pain when doing so. ❗️Please follow all York Region health/safety guidelines related to the eclipse.
